Building Memories

As human beings, we remember 10-30% of what we see, read, and hear. We remember 80% of what we experience personally. With a unique blend of information booths, activities, and exercises using using real tools and working side-by-side with real professionals, Michigan Construction Career Days (CCD) builds memories.

Memories connected to lessons facilitate learning. As an educator, you want your kids to learn. It's impossible to experience a CCD event without learning something. And these are valuable lessons, especially here in Michigan.

  • Michigan’s nearly 100,000 miles of roads, and over 20,000 bridges make up a transportation infrastructure that requires over $2 Billion per year to maintain.
  • Construction in the areas of heavy civil engineering and specialty trades in Michigan involves almost 250,000 workers. This number is expected to increase at a rate of 13% per year.
  • In the capital region alone, the construction industry expects to add over 3200 jobs in the next five years.
  • While home building declined slightly recently, commercial construction, road building, and bridge building continues to climb.

Something for Everyone

Jobs in the construction field are fascinating, exciting, rewarding, and plentiful. And jobs are available at all levels of education, from the worker in a hardhat placing concrete for a bridge pier, to the researcher in a lab coat designing the concrete for the pier. Michigan CCD will let young people see, experience, and learn more about jobs in the construction field, and it will provide specific information about how they can get started.
